Ai Yazawa (NANA, Paradise Kiss) returns after 4 year hiatus due to illness
Ai Yazawa , one of the great queens of manga shoujo and josei by such famous works such as Paradise Kiss and NANA ,returns after four years of silence, it was published until Yazawa NANA had paused the book in 2009 due to a serious illness they may never give details on. All that is revealed about his health is that it required a long hospitalization and the mangaka could not say they would return, saying even that “they may never draw again”.
However, Yazawa has not resumed serialization of The Dramatic adventures of Nana Komatsu and Nana Oosaki as many fans expected, but has actually drawn two pages of “ Junko‘s Place“to celebrate the 100th installment of “Yazawa Island” , a section fixed within the magazine dedicated to her.
In the section, Junko Saotome, a character from the manga, breaks the fourth wall with other characters commenting on the manga itself and others by the same author, and in this particular one they talk about Yazawa’s disease and expectations of readers ( RP2 translation ):
“Junko: It’s only two pages, if you had called everyone had lost control of the situation.
Shoji: Just two pages? And how we will satisfy readers? What a responsibility.
Shoji: If Ai Yazawa had the strength to draw these extra pages could have done something about the main story, right?Or can you maybe were not pretending with your illness?
Shinichi: It’s true. With these two pages we could have had, for example, have drawn some bikini scenes.”
